Every Friday afternoon on the stream from now until the lockdown ends, we’re throwing a weekly series of parties to dance away the crazy. Hosted by a different Drummer Stream DJ, this week’s installment takes place on August 7 live from New York City, as 100% Whatever host Mary Wing pays hommage to shameless ’80s overindulgence! DANNY SAYS is a documentary on the life and times of Danny Fields. Since 1966, Danny Fields has played a pivotal role in music and “culture” of the late 20th century: working for The Doors, Cream, Lou Reed, Nico, Judy Collins and managing groundbreaking artists like The Stooges, The MC5 and The Ramones. DANNY SAYS follows Fields from Phi Beta Kappa whiz-kid, to Harvard Law dropout, to the Warhol Silver Factory, to Director of Publicity at Elektra Records, to “punk pioneer” and beyond. Danny’s taste and opinion, once deemed defiant and radical, has turned out to have been prescient. DANNY SAYS is a story of marginal turning mainstream, avant-garde turning prophetic, as Fields looks to the next generation.

Wild Combination is director Matt Wolf’s visually absorbing portrait of the seminal avant-garde composer, singer-songwriter, cellist, and disco producer Arthur Russell. Before his untimely death from AIDS in 1992, Arthur prolifically created music that spanned both pop and the transcendent possibilities of abstract art. Now, over fifteen years since his passing, Arthur’s work is finally finding its audience. Wolf incorporates rare archival footage and commentary from Arthur’s family, friends, and closest collaborators—including Philip Glass and Allen Ginsberg—to tell this poignant and important story.

Many of you may be wondering why your swag (otherwise known as your fundraising-marathon goodie pack) has not yet arrived at your humble abode. The main reason is that the volunteer army that usually helps us to ship out your swag isn’t in the picture this year, so it’s just a handful of us in the WFMU skeleton crew sending out as much as we can when we can. Hang in there, and we promise we will get to you – it will just take us a little longer this time around. Thanks in advance for your patience!

Maybe you’re home a lot more, and that old junker in the backyard you keep seeing through the window is starting to get under your skin. Well, maybe now is the time to donate it to WFMU and get it off of your hands! WFMU accepts all old cars (and boats), running or not running, from any state in the U.S. Call 1-855-WFMU-CAR (855-936-8227) to arrange for vehicle pick-up (it’s free and easy). The CARS folks have assured us that they are taking all necessary precautions to ensure your safety during pick-up of the vehicle, so get rid of that old heap today and help WFMU at the same time. We get 80% of every vehicle donated!
